Welcome to the ultimate road trip adventure in Sweden! Starting from Copenhagen, Denmark, this journey will take you through beautiful coastal destinations, national parks and serene nature reserves, providing you with unforgettable experiences along the way. Get ready for a drive through Sweden's stunning landscapes and memorable stops.
Week 1: Skane, Blekinge, Oland, Smaland
Day 1: Copenhagen to Falsterbo
Start your road trip from Copenhagen and head north towards the Swedish border. Take a good look at the the majestic Øresund Bridge connecting Sweden and Denmark, while crossing. On this bridge you will need to pay toll, It’s was around 50-60 euros.
Day 1: Falsterbo to Sandhammeren
Our first destination was Falsterbo, a charming coastal town known for its sandy beaches and scenic views. Take in the fresh sea breeze and enjoy a relaxing beach walk. The white beaches were mesmerizing to look at and you wouldn’t expect them to find in Sweden. I lost all my photo’s here, because I deleted them unfortunately all by mistake and didn’t have a back-up. I learned my lesson!
After spending time in Falsterbo, we continue driving north to Sandhammeren, a picturesque coastal area. Set up camp for the night at a nearby campsite and enjoy a picnic on the beach while listening to the soothing sound of the waves. As the sun set and lighted up the sky behind the clouds, take an evening stroll on the beach to watch the sunset.
Day 2: Stenshuved National Park and Kivik
Wake up to the sound of the sea and enjoy a morning walk on the beach. We packed up our tent and headed to Stenshuved National Park, located on the east coast of Sweden, to explore the pristine beaches and rocky coastline. You can spend the day hiking, picnicking and taking in the breathtaking natural beauty of the park. The beach here, is like you are on an island in the south pacific. You wouldn’t say you’re in Sweden.
After a day on the beach drive to Kivik, a picturesque village famous for its apple orchards and beautiful surroundings. Set up camp for the night at a camping site and relax while watching the sunset over the Baltic Sea in the haven of Kivik.
Day 3 & 4: Öland and Lövö
Depart Kivik and head to Öland, Sweden's second-largest island known for its diverse landscapes and historical sites. We went to the northest point of the Island and stayed at Boda Camping and enjoy the lovely beach, though it may be a bit crowded. This island was a bit of a disappointment for us, because it felt like a large Center Parcs. If this is your thing I would recommend it, but we’re more looking for serene camping sites or shelters.
Cross the next day the Öland Bridge back to the mainland and make your way to nature reserve Lovo. This serene reserve offers walking trails and a shelter for you to spend the night, surrounded by nature and tranquility. This is so lovely and you are all alone in nature.
Day 5: Stendorren nature reserve
Continue your journey to Stendorren nature reserve, a local gem where you can unwind and take a swim in the lake. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, hike the trails and take in the serenity of this hidden paradise. The beauty of this lake was mesmerizing and you could walk on the hanging bridge that connects the park.

After our road trip through Sweden's coastal treasures and natural reserves, it's time to get to know the vibrant culture of Stockholm, the capital city. Visit lesser-known neighborhoods like Södermalm or Östermalm to experience the city from a local's perspective. Vintage shops like Arkivet, POP Stockholm and enjoy fikka in LYKKE. If you are in Stockholm you must eat ‘meatballs’, this traditional dish, served with cranberry’s and mashed potatoes, is mouthwatering. Go into a lovely restaurant and it will be definitely on the menu!

After spending some time in the capital, it's time to head back into the middle of Sweden. We departed from Stockholm and head towards Lake Stora Djurlången, a serene and picturesque location in the heart of Sweden. We set up camp by the lakeside and enjoy the peace of this spot. You’ll wake up to the sound of lapping water and the beauty of the Swedish wilderness. In Sweden you have ‘Allemansrecht’, this is a right that you can camp where you want with respect for nature of course! Leave only footprints!
Day 10 and 11: Tilas Toll, Karlstad and Apertin nature reserve
Getting back on the road make a stop at Tilas Toll, a mine tunnel with unique rock formations and lush greenery. You can visit the ‘cave’ through a small dark tunnel and at the end you’d see the wonderful rock formations. To get there you’ll need to take a small walk through the enchanting forest and enjoy the tranquility of the area. As you walk the route you’ll come to see some sheep on your way and they aren’t shy!
We drove to Karlstad, a city situated on the shores of Lake Vänern. We treated ourselves to a spa day in Karlstad, rejuvenating your body and mind after nearly two weeks of adventure was a pleasure. Indulge in the wellness of Vana spa, where you can relax in the hammam, pool and sauna for 2 hours. Definitly worth the visit! You get bathrobes, towels and slippers. Order a nice glass of champagne and just relax.
After our sauna we went to Apertin nature reservoir. This hidden gem was really a lovely place to stay. The romantic setting where you could walk among trees in a lush greenery and the authentic interior from place was like you had gone back into time. The leading lady was so friendly to us and made our stay special.
